Frequently Asked Questions

I registered for the Selma Historic 5K Marathon, but I’m not going to be able to make it. Can I get my money back?
Unfortunately, there are no refunds. Know that your registration fee is going to support the Michael Johnson 93-90 Foundation. We are all about teaching kids the importance of capitalizing on their abilities with technological and educational programs, increasing their awareness of proper nutrition and exercise for healthier bodies to avoid obesity, diabetes and heart disease.

I cannot run but would like to support the event. What should I do?
Please consider sponsoring others to run! Your tax deduction donation will go towards scholarships for individuals unable to cover their registration fees. You can do this online HERE or contact Thomasene Johnson at www.mj93.org or 334-419-3544.

I won’t be able to make the event but want a t-shirt. What can I do?
Register for the Selma Historic 5k Marathon! We will mail you a t-shirt the week after the race.

Do you need volunteers for the event?
We do! Please contact Yolanda Effinger at effingery@mdjohnsonfdn.org if you are interested in volunteering.

Can I pick up my run packet before the event?
Yes, you can. We will have a pre-packet pickup Friday, March 15 from 2 – 7 pm at the Selma YMCA. If you are unable to pick up the day before the race, pick up will be available 30 minutes before the date of the race.

Will the race be timed?
The 5K will be timed. The 1-mile race will not be timed. For the 5K, your time will start when you cross over the starting line. Your personal time will be available immediately following your completion of the race and the results and standings shortly following. A chip will be attached to your bib and will activate when you cross the pads at the start and finish lines. It is very important that you only cross the start and finish line once. If you are planning to run alongside another friend or family member you MUST remove your bib. Failure to do so may result in your time being erased.

What is the route?
You can view the routes HERE.

What time should I be at the race?
Registration will open at 6:15 am and close at 7:00 am on Saturday, March 16. We recommend getting to the event as soon as possible to avoid the crowd. Hundreds of people will be parking and registering that morning so be sure to plan accordingly. The event will start promptly at 7am.

Do I get a t-shirt?
Yes, a t-shirt will be included in your registration packet.

Are dogs or strollers allowed on the course?
Yes. This is an event for the whole family, so bring your kids and furry friends along. For the safety of the runners, we do ask that you start towards the back of the pack to allow the runners the opportunity to go ahead of you.
